Your preparation prior to attending a First Response practical program involves some web based pre-reading followed by an online quiz to demonstrate your understanding of the major principles of First Response.

You will need approximately two to three hours to undertake your pre-reading and a further 30 minutes to undertake your  First Response online quiz.

Compulsory pre-reading (online)

– Learning module 4- Post Resuscitation Care

 

In addition, you should print and read, or view the following powerpoint presentations:

2. Video Series- From the NeoResus website, under Presentations & Videos

  • Video 1: Setting up and trouble-shooting a T-piece device (Neopuff™)
  • Video 2: Mask placement and positive pressure ventilation
  • Video 3: Mask ventilation using self-inflating bag
  • Video 4: External cardiac compressions
  • Video 5: Laryngeal mask LM/Supraglottic airway SGA

3. Online competency assessment (First Response Quiz)

Prior to attending a First Response practical session, you will need to have successfully completed your First Response online quiz, which is a pre-requisite for attending the practical component of this course.

Please complete this after you have completed your pre-reading and reviewed the videos, but before your day of your program.

Your program coordinator will send you the link to complete your NeoResus First Response quiz.

Remember, the aim of the quiz is to demonstrate your understanding of First Response interventions: i.e. the key assessment criteria and interventions in relation to Airway, Breathing & Circulation that form the Australian Resuscitation Council’s newborn resuscitation algorithm.

 

Please note:

You must successfully complete the First Response online quiz, achieving 100%. The quiz should be completed at least 24 hours before your scheduled training day. Please save a copy of your results for your records. 

Your local program coordinator will provide you with access to the First Response quiz. If you are having difficulty accessing the online version, please contact your NeoResus program coordinator who can provide an alternative version for you.

 

On the day of your training program you will need to bring the following items with you:

  • A pen
  • Your ID badge or lanyard
  • A surgical mask- N95 optional
